Per-template settings and custom ratings

We’re excited to release a massive update that will allow you more template customizability!

Settings like header text, deficiency categories, and display options are now per-template, meaning you can have different settings in every template.  You can now also customize your ratings, which were previously locked at IN/NI/NP/D.  These ratings are now unlinked, allowing for any combination.  We’ve also better organized comments into “Info”, “Limits”, and “Defects” to match how they display in the report!

Important note: To make use of any of these changes, you’ll need to update your mobile app to version 5.0.0 or later from the App/Play Store.  Before making any template settings changes, do that first!

To start customizing your template settings, first head to the Template Editor.  Click on the name of the template (or the “more” dropdown and Template Settings) to bring up the Template Settings menu:

Customizability

Here you’ll find all the familiar settings previously housed in Settings->Report Display.  However, these settings only affect reports from this template!

All of these settings are “stamped out” during the report build process (usually at 3am the day of the inspection.)  Just like the report is a snapshot of your template sections/items/comments at that time, the settings are locked in at that time too.  Changes made to template settings after that will only affect future reports!

Ratings

You’ll also notice the new Item Ratings section, which allows you to have custom ratings if you use the grid:

Change ratings

  • The name and abbreviation will appear on your report.
  • The description will be used for an upcoming feature, an automatic legend for your ratings.  You can leave this blank for now.
  • The Default Checked? option will make this rating be checked on new report builds.
  • The color is used in your buttons while editing the report on both web and mobile.

Here’s what the grid looks like on the report:

Comment organization

Now that ratings are separate and optional from your comments, we’ve come up with a better way to organize all those comments.  They now appear exactly as they are used in the report!  You’ll see an area for “Informational”, “Limitations”, and “Defects” (or whatever your word-of-choice for defects.):

In the report, Informational and Limitation comments go into their respective tabs, while defects are displayed as individual cards:

Informational, Limitations, Defects

We believe these change will allow for many different inspection types via heavily-customizable templates.  We’re excited to see what you come up with!
